Renewing a CNA License in Florida

In Orlando and the state of Florida, CNAs have to renew their licenses periodically. The Florida Department of Health notifies CNAs when is time to renew contacting them to the address in file.

In Florida, the renewal date is May 31st. When the CNA license is renewed the first time, the renewal period is 24 months. The fees varies; if the renewal is done before CNA license expires, the fee is only $55.

Besides paying a fee, continuing education is also required, 24 hours for each 24 month certification, including:

-bloodborne pathogens/infection control

-Domestic violence

-medical record documentation

-Resident Rights

-Communication with cognitively impaired clients

-CPR skills

-Medical error prevention and safety

Another requirement to renew the Cna license is performing nursing related services for monetary compensation within the last 24 consecutive months in order to remain on the registry.

CNA licenses that don’t meet the requirements must reapply for licensure and comply with current laws and rules.
